Discover the best Spanish beaches to surf, all levels.

Do you love to surf, but don’t know which are the best National beaches according to your level? This post is for you.

As you can imagine today’s topic I love it 😊. Let’s take a tour of the coasts Spanish, to discover the best surfing beaches for both beginners and surfers more advanced. My friend Belén Rico, who loves surfing and knows a lot, has given me a hand to that this post is super useful to you.

We will start at the beginner level. Belén has told me that her two favorite beaches are Somo and Zarautz because they are sandy and there are few currents.

Somo beach is located in Ribamontán al Mar, a town 32 km from Santander, Cantabria. Along with the beaches of El Puntal and Loredo, they form an extensive sandy area of about 4 km in length. Receives a strong surf as it faces the open sea. The type of sand is fine and it is a beach where it reigns tranquility and calm. Due to its good location you can find several surf schools to get started or rent material to take a Paddle Surf ride near the Cubas estuary, a ride suitable for all ages. https://goo.gl/maps/ukrF51AB7uXY3uBj8

On the other hand, you will also find sandy Zarautz Beach in Guipúzcoa, Basque Country. Its more than 2km long where there are waves throughout the year and suitable for all types of levels. Is very world famous because you can always find waves. https://goo.gl/maps/1mQxGQDX8eYVCwMPA

In the South of Spain you can visit Los Lances beach in front of the Strait of Gibraltar, which is located in the epicenter of southern surfing, Tarifa. Tarifa is a city bathed by the Atlantic Ocean and by the Mediterranean Sea at the same time. On the beach of Los Lances the west wind, which blows more than 280 days a year, it will cause the best waves for all levels. There is also a lot of kitesurfing and windsurfing, and you can find many schools with material to rent. https://goo.gl/maps/ZNte6nDdwoRCtaNx8

Further south west is Playa de las Américas in Tenerife, Canary Islands. There you will find a wave of left where you can surf almost all year round. It is a medium level wave and if there is a south wind / southeast you will enjoy like never before. https://goo.gl/maps/JjrXCcWzjSLAZQB38

For the more advanced I am going to talk about Mundaka, a small fishing town in Vizcaya, Country Basque. This place is very famous for its World Championships, as it is the most prominent spot to surf in Spain. Its wave, possibly the most famous wave in Europe. It is a wave that must be be careful with the currents since this wave is at the mouth of the Oka river, and generates very long tubes on a sandy bottom, something very unusual.

Especially in autumn and winter the waves are for high level, but sometimes if the water is calmer the waves are 1 metro and if you are a mid-level surfer you can also enjoy this unusual experience. This event does not occur continuously since, due to its orientation towards the sea, the wave of Mundaka breaks less frequently than the rest of the surrounding waves. If you visit Mundaka and there is no wave, you can always go to the other side of the estuary to surf, on Laida beach. https://goo.gl/maps/C4cykz2Qq5wKp3SY9

We continue with the most advanced for which there is Meñakoz, a small beach in Rocas between cliffs also located in Biscay. It is famous for its big waves and its tranquility. It is a beach Nudist and they say it is an idyllic place to watch the sunsets. https://goo.gl/maps/dEfu2pur3VE88fwW6

Finally, if you are from Barcelona and cannot go every weekend around Spain, I recommend that you check the wind and wave forecasts, especially between November and April, and if are favorable go to the Barceloneta beach where you can see that the Mediterranean It also has waves for surfing. Also, if you are looking for a little more tranquility you can always go towards Maresme where is Montgat or Vilassar which are less than 20km from Barcelona and also you can enjoy beautiful waves. https://goo.gl/maps/qHLDdBkcb3deKxPJ7

I hope this post has been very useful to you, thank Belén for her contribution and now that you have all this information, I hope that very soon you take a few days off, you can visit any of these wonderful beaches to surf and feel free like the wind.👙🌊🏄‍♀️
